This sculpture, “Montserrat, once a lake,” captures the geological miracle of the Montserrat mountain. Used carving techniques on wood and plaster to evoke the mountain’s iconic shapes, inspiring legends and contemplation. The conceptual, contemporary, figurative, geometric, and symbolism styles blend to represent nature’s slow, patient transformation.
The artwork reflects Montserrat’s origin as a prehistoric lake, where rivers deposited layers of sediment. Tectonic movements lifted the lake bed, and erosion shaped the spectacular forms we see today. The blue and white hues suggest the water and stone, representing the passage of time and the forces that molded the landscape.
This small artwork would be a wonderful addition to your home or office, inviting reflection on nature’s power and beauty. Its compact size makes it versatile for display on a shelf, desk, or mantel. The sculpture brings a touch of the outdoors inside, connecting you to the earth’s ancient story.
